Green Policy
Energy and Water Use
We have gone to great lengths to maximise energy efficiency.
Heating and Lighting
LED bulbs are installed throughout.
Cleaning Materials
Throughout the cottages in the toilets, bathrooms, kitchens and laundry, you will find environmentally friendly products provided to you and used by us.
Laundering
We carry out all of our own laundry on site using environmentally friendly products. There is no ‘off site’ processing, thus cutting out unnecessary transportation.
Recycling
Recycling of plastic (bottles only) card, tin and and paper can be placed in the blue bins provided on site. Glass is not collected from households in Northumberland, but we would encourage guests to recycle clean glass at the bottle bank at the petrol station in the village.
Upcycling
We have used vintage and preloved goods where possible as a green, sustainable choice. (This does not include beds.) After all, even at the Ritz you wouldn’t get a brand new plate!
Partnerships
We have British Gas Zero Carbon Energy Certificates for the electricity supplies to the cottages, availabe on request.
We have partnered with Go Electric for electric bike hire to encourage sustainable exploration of the area.
Locally Sourced Produce
We endeavour to source any goods provided to the cottages as locally as possible, both to support local business and to avoid unnecessary transportation.
Minimising Car Use / Electric Car Charging
The unpacking of a supermarket home delivery upon arrival service is offered.
Details of walking and cycling routes are provided on our website.
Please find the local bus timetable provided by Glen Valley Tours.
We have electric car charging on-site; please bring your cable with you.
Responsible Visitor Charter
How you can help us achieve our sustainability goals in attempting to reduce your impact on the environment.
Heating
Please turn the room thermostat down when leaving your cottage.
Please do not leave external doors open.
Electrical Appliances
Please turn off electrical appliances when not in use to conserve energy.
Bathing
Of course it is entirely your choice, but we encourage you to conserve water and use a shower, rather than a bath, during your stay.
Dishwasher
We have provided ample crockery and cutlery in your cottage to allow you to wait until the dishwasher is full before putting it through a cycle. This will help us to conserve water, energy and detergent.
Lighting
Please turn off lights in rooms that are not in use.
